News Of The World Inspired Notes of Nature

One of the things that I have tried to pass on to Mark’s kids and the grandkids is a love of the outdoors. It’s such a healthy outlet and completely foreign to these screen-addicted couch potatoes, that they look at me amazed that I can do things like catch and gut a fish, identify birds, or ride a horse. So, when I saw the Nature’s Sweetness suite, I knew immediately that I was going to make all 12 of these knuckleheads a Field Notes notebook. (Truthfully, Casey is not a knucklehead. He and his twin are my star students backpacking through Germany and up the Appalachian Trail, mountain biking Utah, and I’ll bet I can teach them to fish)

Colorado was where I became acquainted with the real Field Notes. Outdoorsmen keep those little booklets in the backpack or back pocket all the time, in waterproof bags, to document trips, flowers, size of fish and whether they caught all five kinds of trout. This stamp set, and the entire Nature’s Sweetness Suite, appealed to me as soon as I got a first look at the Spring Mini catalog. In fact, it’s the only thing I ordered! Here, I have created an A2 card with the Collage Stamping technique. Two of the images are from Yeehaw, one image is from Ride the Range, and the rest of it is all from Notes of Nature.

If you and your Book Club haven’t read News Of The World by Paulette Jiles, you must add this to your list of “gotta read it”. And take your whole Book Club to the movie of the same name to see Tom Hanks play the lead roll. Seeing this stamp suite of products and the samples, I started playing that era in my head, circa 1865, and the images from Nature’s Sweetness suite of products just melded as soon as I saw the Field Notes receipt stamp! See below.

If you don’t have a catalog or a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, shoot me an email and I can ship you a catalog inside your order at my expense.

My Prized Blooms program has come to a close, but not my appreciation of your purchase. As I focus on sending cards more than selling product, I am working on card layouts and a few new booklets that you will be given as downloads to print, fold in half, and add to your address book. And don’t worry! I will be sending handmade cards to everyone every month! Click on the product above and shop now.

  1. Great card! This bundle is calling my name for sure and I am not even an outdoor enthusiast! But I love making notebooks and collage type stamping!

    1. I love this! Too funny! In my pass-through of the catalog I had also circled the suite! There is so much you can do with this set. And I love the Field Notes booklet idea. I may use it! Reminds me of a Lang calendar I’ve been getting for many years: Field Notes with art by Susan Winget. Gorgeous! Thank you for your inspiration!

      1. Oh wow does this bring back memories!!! And Lang calendars, too … I had one every year! Thanks Dianna!

    2. Exciting to hear this! I wondered if only the outdoor enthusiasts would be the only ones interested. Thanks Kathy!
